Outlaw Co-Hosts "Prop 8 Passed: What's Next?" Chapman University's student organization, Outlaw, organized and co-sponsored with the Orange County Equality Coalition ("OCEC") a forum entitled, "Prop 8 Passed: What Next?" on Monday, November 24. Jayne Kacer, Assistant Dean of Student Affairs and a faculty sponsor of Outlaw, moderated the event. Speakers were: M. Katherine Baird Darmer, professor at Chapman and founding Board Member of OCEC, who presented a legal argument that Prop 8 was an invalid "revision" to the state constitution; Samantha Kohler, a Chapman student and daughter of two moms who described the impact of Prop 8 on her family; Tiffany Chang, a Chapman 2L and president of Outlaw, who described her personal reaction to Prop 8 and how it had affected her marriage; and BJ Davis, Chair of the Board of OCEC and director of the NO on 8 campaign in Orange County who described the campaign and concrete steps that can be taken in the wake of Prop 8's passage. The large, standing-room-only audience included Chapman undergraduate and law students, members of OCEC and other members of the community. A webcast of the informative and often emotional meeting is now available for viewing. Those in attendance received action packets, as well as white knots, the symbol adopted by those who support equal marriage rights.
